I’m Danielle, and I’m very passionate about food—how it tastes, looks, where it comes from, and perhaps most importantly, how it makes us feel. I focus a lot on eating consciously. What I’ve learned from this practice is that food carries meaning, and cooking is a way to create a life with meaning.
My mission has always been to help people find as much joy in food as I do, not only in terms of taste but also in connecting to the ingredients on our plate in meaningful ways that add value to our lives.
I spend a lot of time in the outdoors primarily because it allows me to connect with my food in a deeper way. This means you’ll find me digging in the garden for the perfect-sized red potato, picking chanterelles in the Sam Houston National Forest, hunting pheasants on the open grasslands of North Dakota, or fishing for red drum in the shallow baywaters of the Laguna Madre. It’s a lifestyle that promotes a more intimate relationship with the land and teaches us the value of our resources.
I love cooking with wild food, and while I wish I could eat it every day, unfortunately I cannot. So, I’m also a big supporter of my local farmers who share the same values as I do. That’s why you’ll see a blend of recipes ranging from wild venison to pasture-raised chicken and beef.
I founded Wild + Whole in 2017 as an outlet to share my love for healthily sourced food. This allowed me to develop recipes to share with friends and fans. Those recipes became the foundation for my cookbook, Wild + Whole. Today, I strive to be a leading voice in the wild food community and a trusted resource for all things cooking.
I’ve been fortunate to work with MeatEater, Garden & Gun, Texas Monthly, Food 52, Covey Rise, Modern Huntsman, and have worked with various conservation organizations across the US.
Share my love for healthy-sourced food.
